The Portsmouth Choral Union will present "A Night at the Opera" in a new venue for them: Portsmouth Grammar School.

This, the choir’s summer concert, will feature choruses, arias and ensembles from the world of grand opera.

As well as familiar works such as the Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen and The Easter Hymn from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and the exciting Polotsvian Dances from Borodin’s Prince Igor, there will be less well-known items such as the beautiful Voyagers’ Chorus from Mozart’s rarely-heard Idomeneo and The Chorus of Enchanted Islanders from Handel’s opera Alcina.

Lynsey Docherty (Soprano) and Stuart Pendred (Bass Baritone) will sing arias and ensembles from much-loved operas and will also join with the chorus for the Habanera, Toreador’s Song and The Easter Hymn

For all lovers of opera and choral music, this is a concert not to be missed.

Accompanied by Southern Pro Musica and directed by David Gostick, it will take place at:
David Russell Theatre, Portsmouth Grammar School, High Street, Portsmouth PO1 2LN

Saturday June 21st 2025 7.30pm
