Fareham Philharmonic Choir Presents: A Concert of Reflection and Remembrance
Fareham Philharmonic Choir was honoured to present a special concert on Saturday, 3rd May 2025, at 7:30 PM at Holy Trinity Church, West Street, Fareham. In recognition of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the choir sang a specially curated programme featuring two significant works: Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace and Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light: A Requiem.
Under the direction of Musical Director Andrew Cleary, the choir were joined by soloists and instrumentalists to bring these moving compositions to life. The Armed Man, is a well- loved contemporary classic, renowned for its emotive power, while Eternal Light offers a poignant tribute to the deep sense of loss felt in the wake of a bereavement.
The Fareham Philharmonic Choir, established in 1890, is a dedicated group of around 70 singers who enjoy performing a wide range of choral music, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. The choir is committed to delivering high-quality performances that resonate with audiences and enrich the local cultural scene.
The Armed Man came second in national voting for Classic FM's Hall of Fame over Easter Weekend.

Fareham Philharmonic Choir's annual Christmas Concert featured Alan Bullard’s lovely and evocative piece, "O Come, Emmanuel", with soloists contributing from all around the church, together the usual traditional carols (some for audience participation) and other seasonal music. Baroque and Beyond
The Choir, Orchestra and Soloists performed an exciting and popular programme featuring Mozart’s Vespers and also including other splendours of the Baroque as follows:
- Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring from Cantata 147 – JS Bach
- Entrance of the Queen of Sheba – GF Handel
- Adagio in G minor – T Albinoni
- Halleluia Chorus from Messiah – GF Handel
- Canon in D major – J Pachelbel
- Zadok the Priest – GF Handel
