As FPC begins the new term by joyfully coming back to singing together, we hope this newsletter finds you well rested after the summer break.
Here’s what we have coming up in the next few months.
Curtain Up!
Our Autumn concert this year will take us back to pivotal moments in the development of musical theatre as we see it today.
George Gershwin and his brother Ira are remembered as giants of the swinging jazz age. From humble beginnings as a song plugger, through the musical furnace of ‘Tin Pan Alley’, George Gershwin began writing songs now immortalised in the Great American Songbook. In homage to them both we will be touring through classics such as ‘S Wonderful, Summertime and I’ve Got Rhythm. Find out more about George Gershwin’s glittering career in https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p021bbjk
We will also be travelling further back to parody Victorian high society with the fabulous works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Over their 25 year partnership, W. S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan wrote fourteen operettas together. These works not only paved the way for political satire through music but changed the structure of musical theatre so that the lyrics drove plot development as much as the dialogue. What better way to celebrate then, than by enjoying ‘Hail Poetry’, ‘Dance a Chachucha’ and ‘Three Little Maids from School’
We’d love you to join us at Holy Trinity Fareham at 7:30pm on Saturday 18th October for this celebration of musical theatre. Find more information on https://www.fpchoir.org/dbpage.php?pg=view&dbase=events&id=191003

Open Night
We look forward to welcoming new faces to our upcoming open evening on the 27th October at 7:30pm. Come along for a relaxed evening of singing, with a sneak peak of the music we will be singing in the Christmas concert.
FPC Chorale
The FPC Chorale is a small nucleus of our regular singers who practice a repertoire of music for events. Their inaugural performance was at the URC Christmas Fayre where they sang a selection of well-known carols and had a great response! If you know of any upcoming events, and would like the support of a fabulous small choir, contact us by email: chorale@fpchoir.org.uk.
In other news….
Constitution
Over the summer, FPC committee members came together to review the current constitution, which dates from 1996! We are pleased to say we were able to modernise and update the constitution to meet our needs on into the future. We ratified this at a recent rehearsal and hopefully it will continue to meet our needs for the next 30 years!
Come and Sing
We had a wonderful afternoon at our Cake, Raffle and Soul event in early July. Andrew Cleary, musical director, led us in some workshop exercises to improve our cohesion as a group via a beautiful acapella rendition of ‘Lean on Me’ by Bill Withers. It wasn’t all hard work though; we were also able to enjoy a well deserved slice of cake!
